lobelight, Biennial of Light Art, is preparing for its third exhibition this August – the only home grown event of its kind in Australia, championing real creativity and career development of over 50 artists since its inception in 2012.
Artists and designers from around Australia have been invited to propose works responding to the theme “energy as light” and will be filling two venues with spectacular and thought provoking, creative artworks using a startling array of materials and, of course, light.
SUPERNOVA - OFF THE KERB GALLERY
A titanic explosion marked by a new light. It is an end, yet a beginning.
A complex formation of luminous and obscure facets, housing multicoloured lighting and designed to hover in space. Available in various finishes and sizes.
SOL - THE ABBOTSFORD CONVENT
SOL is a celebration of the majestic Australian Sun. Sources of light as an architectural device have long held a fascination of contemplation and divine inspiration. The piece references Bernini’s Baroque theatricality by thrusting golden rays into centre stage in this bespoke luminary. The engraved front face is an emblematic dotted sun, influenced by graphic indigenous representations. SOL stimulates the senses, elevates the soul, using tension, texture and naturalism.
