ABOUT ME

After training and practicing as an architect overseas, Ilan relocated to Australia in 2005 to join the Design Masters program at RMIT University in Melbourne. This program deepened his understanding of design principles across various disciplines and sparked a passion for creating immersive and experiential lighting solutions.

In 2010, Ilan established ILANEL Design Studio, positioning it as a leader in bespoke lighting design and production. The studio specializes in crafting custom luminaires and large-scale light based installations, seamlessly blending art, technology, and functionality. The studio's works are characterized by their ability to transform spaces, evoke emotions, and enhance the psychological and sensory experience of light.

Ilan’s fascination with the experiential qualities of light drives his creative process. He delves into the visible spectrum’s interplay of colours and their potential to influence mood and perception. His designs often incorporate interactive, playful, and automated elements, emphasizing light's transformative power to foster joy and connectivity. This philosophy extends to his large-scale installations, which frequently explore themes of movement, reflection, and the relationship between natural and artificial illumination.

ILANEL's work is internationally recognized for its innovation, merging artisanal craftsmanship with cutting-edge technology to produce pieces that are both timeless and forward-thinking. Whether designing for residential, commercial, or public spaces, Ilan consistently challenges conventional boundaries to create lighting that is not only functional but also an artistic centerpiece.
