The Role

  • Day-to-day activities involve research, development, design and documentation of custom and commissioned projects.

  • You'll liaise directly with clients, suppliers and fabricators dealing with sourcing through production to hands-on workshop assembly.


Key Responsibilities

  • Design Innovation: Lead and contribute to developing cutting-edge industrial design concepts, products, and projects. Sketch and draft designs for client approval. Develop presentations for concept proposals.

  • Product Development: Collaboratively bring design concepts from ideation to production, considering materials, manufacturing processes, and user experience. Producing specification sheets and installation guides.

  • Prototyping: Create prototypes and mock-ups to test and refine design ideas, ensuring feasibility and functionality.

  • Client and Supplier Interaction: Work closely with clients to understand their design requirements and provide design solutions that meet their needs and expectations. Liaising with local and offshore suppliers and fabricators, sourcing and purchasing as required.

  • Market Research: Stay updated on industry trends, emerging technologies, and design innovations to inspire and inform your work.

  • Sustainability: Integrate sustainable design principles into projects, considering environmental impact and resource efficiency.

  • CAD and Visualisation: Utilise computer-aided design (CAD) software and other visualisation tools to communicate design ideas effectively. Producing high-level CAD models and drawings for manufacture.

  • Project Management: Manage multiple design projects concurrently, ensuring deadlines and budgets are met.

  • Quality Assurance: Ensure the quality and integrity of design concepts and products, maintaining the studio's reputation for excellence.

  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate with fellow designers, production, and other team members to foster a creative and innovative work environment.

  • Maker Skills: You must have a strong knowledge of how things are made and be able to work with tools and assembly. You will also need to liaise with our production team and attend our workshop to inspect or troubleshoot products, and on some occasions, help out in the workshop.

Requirements

  • Tertiary qualification in Industrial Design or Product Design Engineering.

  • Minimum 3 years experience. Proven experience as an Industrial Designer, with a portfolio showcasing your design work.

  • High proficiency in CAD software and other design tools. Fusion 360 skills are preferred.

  • Highly proficient in Adobe CC (Illustrator, Indesign, Photoshop. Lightroom).

  • A positive attitude, collaborative mindset, battle-tested problem-solving skills, and creativity.

  • Excellent communication and presentation abilities.

  • A-grade time management skills and the ability to work autonomously with limited supervision.

  • Knowledge of design for manufacturing processes and materials.

  • Passion for design and a commitment to staying updated on industry trends.

Bonus

  • Knowledge of electrical theory and/or incorporating lighting in manufactured products will be highly regarded.

  • Experience in the lighting and/or construction industry is a big plus!
