Winter Light In Melbourne

There is something about Melbourne and light in Winter.

Frosty temperatures, crisp breezes, and delicate droplets of rain are familiar on a typical Melbourne winter’s day. Despite the nights becoming protracted and colder, Melbourne appears to come to life more as each sun sets. Winter in Melbourne is a beautiful and inspiring time, celebrating the light amongst the darkness in a myriad of enlightening events.

ACMI in the iconic Federation Square is currently exhibiting Light: Works from Tate’s Collection. We had the opportunity to attend the official opening event and admired the celebration of light spanning over 200 years of art history. The inspirational works by world-renowned artists harness the elemental force of illumination to express their visions through paintings, photography, sculptures, installation and moving images. This is a must-see show appealing to all ages and people from all walks of life.

Another light-wonder show we highly recommend is Lightscape. For the first time, an immersive, after-dark experience comes to Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne this winter. Iconic tree canopies drenched in colour, vibrant bursts of light tumbling from the undergrowth and climbing up trees like fizzing fireworks. Make sure to explore playful beams of light, walk through glowing tunnels and linger at waterside reflections.

These shows truly make Melbourne unique; families and friends brave the cold weather to experience exceptional and heartwarming luminance.

As we delve deeper into the winter months, our ‘SNOWBALL’ light fixture brings a longing to spring.

Like the flower it is named after, ‘Snowball’ conveys a whimsical playfulness and evokes a sense of warmth in an effortless and understated manner. Featuring a delicate hand-blown glass sphere nestled in a cradle of brass, minimal and graceful on its own or dotted in mass.

Designing custom and bespoke luminaires is what we do best here at ILANEL.

We are currently working on a very unique project in Milson’s Point, on Sydney’s lower North Shore in collaboration with Interior Designer Mageia Design Studio. The beautiful residence overlooks Australia’s iconic landmarks including the Sydney Harbour Bridge and The Opera House. The strength of this project is the attention to detail, with every single aspect being custom-made

We worked closely with the clients throughout every step of the journey. It is this personal and dedicated level of service that makes the process of custom ILANEL creations so unique.

The process of turning ideas into functional lighting requires excellent engineering knowledge and the support of local fabricators. If you can envisege it, we will bring it to light.
