For the visual arts industry, the loss of this measure will be felt. It brings to an end one of its few truly stimulative measures and over 15 years of policy vacillation.

The timing could not be worse to end this measure and replace it with nothing. The visual arts is particularly vulnerable to economic slowdowns, particularly ones brought about by global uncertainty. It should also be noted the extension of the instant asset write-off from 30 June 2024 to 30 June 2025 has still not been made law!

LIMITED EDITION

Drawing inspiration from the principles of Optical Art and the intricate ways humans perceive colour, the ORA 2.0 introduces a captivating dual illumination effect that sets it apart.

The artwork embodies a sophisticated interplay of coloured illumination, where the dual inner and outer glow work in harmony to create a mesmerising visual experience. The inner glow provides a concentrated, radiant core that draws the viewer's gaze, while the outer glow creates a subtle halo effect, enhancing the illusion of depth and movement.

The ORA 2.0 is an evolution of the original artwork ORA commissioned by the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) and prominently displayed at the 2020 Triennial. This iteration builds upon the conceptual foundation of its predecessor, which featured a striking 1.2-meter diameter illuminated wall eclipse. The ORA 2.0 is not merely an extension of the original piece but a reimagined creation that explores the boundaries of light as an artistic medium. It challenges the observer's perception by altering their sense of reality, making it an immersive experience. The subtle shifts in colour and light intensity evoke a sense of calmness and introspection, drawing viewers into a meditative state as they contemplate the relationship between light, colour, and space.

Double Flash - Sculptural Light - Collectible Design
$12,000.00

A masterful interplay of geometry and energy, the Double Flash is a striking one-off sculpture - hand-forged from solid brass - that captures the raw, electrifying power of a lightning bolt. Handcrafted in Melbourne, this singular piece transitions seamlessly between a minimalist flat silhouette and a dynamic 3D projection. Whether standing as a commanding floor light or adapted into a dramatic pendant, it serves as a definitive, high-luxury statement for modern architectural interiors.

Designer’s Note

"With the Double Flash, I wanted to challenge the static nature of metal. There is a specific kind of tension in a lightning bolt - a split second where energy is both chaotic and perfectly directed. By hand-working this form in solid brass, we’ve effectively 'frozen' lightning strike, giving a transient natural phenomenon a permanent, weighted physical presence.

My goal was to create a piece that lives between dimensions. When you view it head-on, it’s a minimalist graphic, almost like a sketch in the air. But as you walk around it, the brass geometry reveals itself, reclaiming the three-dimensional space. It is a one-off exploration of light as a sculptural medium - designed for those who appreciate the raw beauty of a hand-crafted edge."
